What a weekend! Pumping swell and explosive surfing, what more could we ask for!

Newcastle’s annual Surfest definitely didn’t disappoint on any front. The clean 4-6ft waves provided for the spectacular final day’s battle, which saw Aussie duo Matt Willkinson and Sally Fitzgibbons taking home this year’s title.

Copacabana local, Matt Wilkinson, had to bring his A-game I form of his signature vertical backhand hacks to defeat Italian sensation Leonardo Fioravanti in the final with a solid overall score of 17.83 points (9.00 + 8.83).

On the women's side, Sally Fitzgibbons had to work hard to come out top, beating 6 times World Champion Stephanie Gilmore. Her confident display of rail-to-rail surfing and consistency paid off in form of 14.73 (7.83 + 6.90) points in the final.

All eyes are now on the Australian Open of Surfing in Manly before the world’s best surfers fight it off at the first WCT event at Snapper Rocks later on this month.
